[E-Mountain] Mountain walk
A trip to the mountains had seemed like a brilliant idea to Horacio. He and Zap, his bahrū, would go and traipse along the mountain trails and get some fresh air. They’d see the vistas, enjoy the view, have some lunch and come back down. But no. Now they were cold, he’d lost his lunch over a cliff and ended up with a busted wing. It was turning out to be the opposite of the fun trip he had envisioned.
He wanted to mope and be miserable, but that was hard to do with Zap licking his face.
“Aww, cut it out, would’ja?” he chuckled, pushing the bahrū away and wiping the slobber off his cheek. “I guess it’s not all bad. We did get to see tha view.”
He could see half of the sprawling island that he lived on, all the way to the ocean and even some of the islands in the distance. But sitting around moping or even staring at the view wouldn’t get them anywhere. With his wing hurt, he’d have to walk down to get help and that could take a while. He supposed he’d better get started while it was still daylight.
Zap let out an excited howl and they started on their way back down the trail. The pup ran ahead only to stop and sniff at the plants and rocks along the way. His master watched on with some amusement.
“Don’t get too far,” Horacio called out, though it wasn't like the bahrū understood him. It still made him feel better to talk to Zap as if he could understand. He’d seen a few owners act that way towards their critters and companions. He never thought that he would do that himself. Funny how things changed. He hadn’t ever seen himself with a bahrū either, but he was glad he had Zap in his life.
Together they wandered across the mountain trails back towards the village. Horacio had to admit that he was seeing more of the mountain this way than if he had just been able to fly there and back. He got to explore the nooks and crannies of the rock face with Zap, discovering all the little spaces and even a few caves that he would never have seen from the air. He made a mental note of where to find them so he could explore them another time. Yet, for now, he and his bahrū pup headed for home to have a nice dinner and some rest.
